Keeping up the Off Season
The tri season is over and a few months to relax and enjoy other areas of life is ahead of us! Do not forget about all the "fun", less exertive events we can participate in such as the local runs! Although off season is a time to relax and recover from the wear and tear of tri-season, it also is a time to train and continue to lower our lactic acid threshold! With that being said, a group of us will be meeting at the bridge on Tuesday and Thursday starting at 530am to train for the annual bridge run in February! http://search.active.com/?q=&start_date=&end_date=&l=brunswick%2C+ga+31525&p=25&channel=&mediatype=&commit=Search&tab=events this is the Active site for sign up or the day of race... This run is not listed yet on the site, but stay in touch! Also a jingle bell run will be hosted in December normally at the Mary Ross Park! The Veterans Day Run will be hosted at Mary Ross Park the weekend of Nov 15th! The Savannah Bridge Run is just around the corner! http://www.savannahriverbridgerun.com/ With all this fun going on all around us, we should be able to have plenty of run time!

Let's not forget about the Island Regimen! This has been a sucess for many of my friends! They love the outside competitive one on one nature of this style of workout... Tim and his group has a great event going!!! Check them out at http://www.islandregimen.com/.
Currently we are organizing a Multi Sport Club and Triathlete Team! I have listed a link to a website and soon a Facebook site for communication and event information! Stay in touch!

A Few Pics
This is the way to start a day! Watch the sun rise and then go for a brisk swim...

Little work from the Eye DR and rest from the trainer!
FAST and patriotic!

Mr. Stripes is the BAD MAN! He did not like the fact we could race and have some fun at the same time.

100% Every time.

What a good looking group to represent the GI

TIM! the new guy...
No matter what level of fitness you are at, all you need is a determination to get better. I normally train in the early AM. Beginning at 430 AM and lasting to around 700. These workouts normally have some running, lifting and sometimes swimming and biking. I will start placing my workout times on the site again soon. I will also encourage anyone else to post their workout times so we can train together.
Glad to have you in the GI!

Always training for the next!

Hello guys,
The internet has been down for a few days and thanks to TRI JUNKIE for keeping things going! I signed up at the Y for swim lessons in the AM. Coach Ken has given me lots of tips to become a better swimmer. It paid off at my last tri. I came out of the water 1 min and change better than last year. This is the training he has me doing for the Olympic.
Day 1) 3 x 550s
Day 2) 10 x 50s on 1:15
3 x 200s pull with long strokes
Day 3) 5 x 200s
In a couple of weeks he will give me another work load for the mile swim.
Still training in the AM at the Y, Bailey's and some from home. Currently Skeet and I are planning a trip to Amelia Sunday to ride the bike course and maybe a little open water swim. A group would be much more fun! Let me know!
The Vidalia Tri-Sprint and the Amalia Olympic will be the next two events.

"Savannah Rock of the Marne Triathlon"
(This past Sunday, Sept. 7th, 2008)The History of Triathlon
Early triathlons were held as offbeat training exercises for runners. The first known modern day triathlons were held at San Diego’s (Calif.) Mission Bay in 1974. Organized by members of the San Diego Track Club, the events were held on summer evenings and were intended as no more than light-hearted breaks in the normal grind of training for marathons and 10Ks. These club events consisted of a run-bike-swim format.
One athlete who raced at the first Mission Bay Triathlon, John Collins, was very influential in the further development of the sport. Collins, a U.S. Naval Officer, took the triathlon concept to Hawaii and used it several years later to combine three of Oahu’s endurance events – the Waikiki Rough Water Swim, the Around-Oahu Bike Ride and the Honolulu Marathon – into one race: the Ironman. Only 12 men completed the first race held in January of 1978.
In 1979 Nestor Gernay and Steve Lynn orgainized a "Tin Man " ( 1/2 Ironman / 70.3 ) event in Savannah, Ga. This event had the same swim-bike-run format as the Ironman Hiawaii . 12 people finished in October 1979.

OF COURSE.....a few of our Golden Isles Multi Sport Athletes represented us in this event.
1. Amber Wellman, SSI
2 Tim Carlson, BWK
3. Jennifer & Steve Blackerby, BWK ........Just to name a few! ........WAY TO GO GUYS!!!

"DEAR MS KLAHN"

Ms. Klahn Congratulations! Way to go on your TRI in Winnersville. Coming in first or last isnt important. Being able to run/jog/walk across the finish line is Priceless! Record your time and strive to beat it on your next TRI.Becoming part of the group that trains requires a couple of things. Commitment, Dedication, and an Open Mind. Your fitness level isn't important. We have all the right people to get you started and even improve your time in your next event. Tri Junkie (For: Hugh)

Golden Isles Area TRI Athletes!

The official results are out for the third series JAX TRI. This is a rundown of our county by age group: Robert Millican, Barbara Boyd - 1st! Jenni Boczar, Sidney Azambuja - 2nd! the rest of us had a great time and finished strong: Tim Carlson, Steve Barr, Amber Wellman, Barbara Azambuja and Kelli Smith. Great representation GI!
Of course this site was established for any multi-sport athlete to post their workout times and we may be able to join each other. I continue to train in the AM. I will start posting my workouts in a later post today. Please post yours and let's show up and train together.
I need to give props when I can... Tim Carlson is a personal trainer and has begun an outside training session. I must say it is GREAT! The website is http://www.islandregimen.com/. If you want a workout with a group and have tons of fun, this is for you! Tim is a great person to train with. You can read his bio here http://www.taylormadetrainingcenter.com/id118.html.
We also have Dr. Jenni Boczar who is an amazing athlete and a business owner with her husband Dr. Dave Boczar at Family Health Chiropractic. I believe chiropractic care is vital to a superior performing body. Their website is http://www.familyhealthchiropractic.info/
Dr. Amber Wellman also is a chiropractor. She has Wellman Family Healthcare here in the GI! SO we have no reason to be running around with aches and pains!
Dr. Robert Millican also a great athlete has multiple eye care locations. You can visit him at SSI, Brunswick and the Medical Mall.
Let's not forget Dr. Steve Barr! He will make all of us look better! http://www.renuemd.com/
If any of you would like pictures on the website, I can insert them if you send me one. I have an email address of hugh_adams@excite.com. I will be posting a few pics in a later post. See all of you soon.

"Fran" is the BOMB !
This AM I ran 3 miles at a 710 pace from the Y. Then I tried a new workout. The name of the workout is "Fran". If you are not familiar with this you should check out http://www.crossfit.com/. The trainers create workouts and then the workout takes the name of the trainer who created it. Or at least that seems to be the way workouts are named. Skeet Brewer is a certified crossfit trainer and I will consult with him this PM to see if I cheated! (BTW, THANKS FOR THE CYCLE TIME YESTERDAY.) I finished Fran in 4:50. I was trashed! Then I swam 800m. 4 groups of 200m. Great workout!
Wednesday I need to do some lifting and a run. Really need a longer run - 4 to 5 miles will be needed. I can lift at the Y or Powerhouse. Any takers leave me a comment. See you there!

July 29 - August 1
OK the weekend was a bust for training. Baseball was an all day event on Saturday and Sunday I was hubby and dad around the house. It is amazing to watch little athletes step up to a higher level of competition. This weekend was an education in itself. My son is on a travel BBall team. They are 7 & 8 yrs old. Their age group did not have enough teams to sign up so they had to play 9 & 10 age group. They played and actually did great! I thought they would get crushed, instead they fought it out and actually won a game. They went extra innings with the team that won the tournament! They did get put out but they went down fighting. They did not give anything away and they left it all on the field! WAY TO GO GRINDERS!
This week I will be training at various places again. I hope to get Skeet and a couple more together to train. My schedule is very flexible and would like to change it up some. The tentative schedule is:
Monday PM - Run and maybe Bike from home w/ core exercises
Tuesday 4:30-5:00am - meet at Y and Bike and Swim
Wednesday 4:30-5:00am - meet at Powerhouse Gym Run and Power lift w/ core exercises
Thursday4:30-5:00am - meet at Y & either run or bike then swim
Friday 4:30 - 5:00am - meet at Y or Powerhouse and Run & Power lifts w/ core exercises
Hope to see you there! If you have better plans let me know - I will join you!

Island Regimen!
OK Guys, I had an opp to visit the Island this AM for a workout. TJ (TRI JUNKIE) and his partner did an EXCELLENT job with the ISLAND REGIMEN! Dude that was so fun!!! On the pavement doing core exercises, jogging with medicine balls and jumping over picnic tables! WWWAAAHHHHOOOO! You must check out the website and if you like outdoor workouts......this is for you! http://www.islandregimen.com/ is the website and this group is very dynamic and enthusiastic! I will be back!!!
Saturday my son has a baseball game - last one of the year! He has played about 90 games from January to July. He is such a "MAN CHILD"! He has more athletic ability in his finger than I have in total. I hope to swim sometime on Saturday or Sunday at the Y. I would like to do some swimming in the ocean. Maybe that will happen, we will see.

Breathless - Recovery
That was the workout for this AM at JMMS. The bike ride was an interval training session of faster faster faster then recovery. I did that routine for 7 mls. During the last interval I cycled up to 27.5mph for 60sec. Very light workout but affective.
Friday I will be joining TRI JUNKIE for his Island Regimen. Should be fun.

Lactic Acid Threshold : |
Say What!... That is what I said when I was "school'd" the other day while talking to TRI JUNKIE! So you think you know it all and then a new dude tells you something you didn't know. Then you do a little research and find out what the heck they are talking about. Well that shows me that a Certified Trainer is always a good resource to have. Ask me about cash flows, GPP, cost vs. expenses and the nuts and bolts of a company and I can bore the best of business owners. That is what I do 10hrs a day... As a CPA in the area, I must stay current with accounting and business strategies. SO to no surprise, a trainer can help any person at any level step up their performance. Thanks TRI JUNKIE!
This AM was a great workout. Lots of reps - cling and press, dead lifts and core exercises. Then I ran 5mls on the treadmill @ 750 pace. My goal is to increase my lactic acid threshold for my next couple of Tri's.
Thursday's workout should be a good one. Hope to see you at Jane Macon MS on Altama.

Give it up - Leave it on the track!
Hello all...
This AM was perfect for a fast bike ride! Wish all of you could have "rolled" with me. I did have a cop stop me...but not for speeding - which stinks! He commented on the lights on my bike. Crazy people drive around in the early mornings you know... Tomorrow will be a much easier workout. A little power lifts. Some light weights and some heavy. Really going to focus on repetitions for a more cardio style workout. Then of course a good strong run. I will be training at Bailey's Powerhouse Gym. Hope to see you there...
OOOHHH BTW I must give props when due! My better half is a professional photographer. GREAT JOB ON THE BANNER! She is going to photo us in as many TRI's as she can make. SO if you do not want your photo on the blog...you better let me know! Check out Tracy's blog to see more of her work!

Tri Junkie
Thanks for the comment! I'm glad I'm not the only nut getting up at the wee hrs of the morning to kill myself! It seems there are about 10 to 15 people in the area that are doing these tri's. By reviewing their times it seems we have some fast triathletes in the area. I will be posting my workouts from week to week and hopefully others will post theirs so I can join them. Keep on triing!
